My Breast Cancer Story Ft. Elise Harris

My name is Elise Anna Harris. My mother, Elise Anna, had breast cancer twice and died at the young age of forty-seven. My grandmother, Elise Anna, died of breast cancer at the young age of forty-four. My mother would always tell my sister and me about being familiar with our bodies and knowing what is normal for us.

In May 2002, I felt a lump in my right breast. I was scheduled to have a needle biopsy. A week later, it was confirmed to be Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I had a lumpectomy and six rounds of chemotherapy. In February 2007, calcifications (s) on the left side of my breast were found on my mammogram. Three surgery attempts were made to have the calcifications removed. In January 2018, I felt a lump in my right breast once again scheduled to have an ultrasound. The radiologist said to me can you see the large black mass on the screen? I said yes, she said it was (cancer). I began crying just like a baby. I am saying not again, Breast Cancer, I kept on crying. I had surgery to remove the lump and six rounds of very intense chemotherapy.
Cancer has impacted my life, and many of my family, friends have died from this awful
disease. My prayer is to find a cure for all types of cancer. Survivorship means to me taking it one day at a time. Helping others in their cancer journey, knowing their family history, knowing their bodies, waking up each morning, thanking GOD for another day, and being thankful to be alive.
Cancer has taught me that if you think you’re having problems, you can always look around and find someone else worse off than you. Words Of Encouragement: Be proactive about your health, Perform Regular Breast self-examinations. That is how I found the lump in my breast (s).
