Melanin & Pink Ft. Cynthia Smalls

Updated: Oct 31, 2024

My name is Cynthia B. Smalls. Before my diagnosis in 2016 with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ I was a wife, mother,  and a full-time employed labor union advocate who worked in her community through various community service organizations.

I learned of my diagnosis via a phone call from my doctor following a 3D mammogram.

In terms of treatment I had a lumpectomy, lymph node removal followed by 30 rounds of radiation.

Life after breast cancer has become richer. I have become an advocate for breast health through my blog Melanin & Pink Ribbons and my most recent book Push the Button. I speak to others on topics surrounding breast cancer.

Breast cancer has taught me that I am strong, a warrior and I can do most things trough Christ who is the source of my strength.

Make sure you give yourself the comfort you need and ask for help while undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Remember your scars are your sign that you survived so you can thrive!
