Ladies, as a woman, it is a no brainier of the significant role of undergarments as it relates to femininity. It was refreshing to learn about Ms. Tina’s lingerie line she was inspired to launch after experiencing a mastectomy. This Australian beauty did not allow breast cancer to minimize her femininity but instead choose to develop a brand that would be relevant for many years! Check out her inspiring story and the inspiration behind her beautiful brand.
Ms. Tina developed a lump in her breast that would not go away. After awaiting her menstrual cycle the pain/lump still remained. With much consideration she realized it was time to make a visit to her General Practitioner. On the day of her consultation, Tina’s GP made a referral for a mammogram and ultrasound. Once completing the mammogram and ultrasound...results revealed Fibroedoema (according to the American Cancer Society, Fibroedoema are benign (non-cancer) tumors made up of both glandular breast tissue and stromal (connective) tissue. They are most common in young women in their 20s and 30s.) Tina was 37. She was referred to a specialist for a second opinion and learned of a second lump that was not present during her original screening...prompting her specialist to refer her for a core-biopsy. Tina learned that she had breast cancer when she returned for her diagnoses/follow up visit. Her specialist thoroughly explained her treatment opinions and suggested a mastectomy followed by an immediate reconstructive surgery (lat dorsi with silicone), chemotherapy and now Tamoxifen.
Before this life changing experience she was accustomed to wearing the finest luxury undergarments such as Simone Pérle, La Perla and Chantelle. However, after treatment her options were limited. Although Tina had reconstructive surgery she was advised to wear a mastectomy bra for the first few months. During her shopping experience at a mastectomy boutique she was horrified by the limited options and was not impressed by the styles. Additionally, she was uncomfortable with the mainstream, underwire bras and its discomfort against her scar tissue. Through this journey, Tina began thinking about other breast cancer survivors who have experienced a mastectomy however, did not have the option of reconstruction surgery and/or limited options in lingerie.
With a passion to provide lingerie products, to her sister survivors, that would offer the same options they once enjoyed prior to cancer and treatment…Tina launched her brand, Red Fern Lingerie in May of 2015! In addition to Tina’s amazing lingerie brand, she gives back to the community by serving as an Ambassador and member of the Speakers Bureau for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. She speaks at events to raise awareness and funds for the foundation. Also, she serves as a member of the review and survey group for the Breast Cancer Network Australia.
